Jungle Scout is a web-based software product that will help you begin, monitor, and optimize your sales through Amazon.
Making money with Amazon has never been easier. From books to food to furniture, you can buy practically anything from Amazon these days. Did you know that Amazon made over $280 billion in 2019? It’s time for you to get a piece of that pie.
Selling on Amazon varies in complexity; you can sell items you already have around your house, or you can create a private label brand and sell high-volumes. If you choose the latter, you likely want to make use of Amazon’s Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) program. With FBA, Amazon stores your merchandise and handles all aspects of shipping, delivery and customer service. You can use FBA regardless of your type of seller account or method of product sourcing.
Before you figure out how to ship your products though, you have to decide what to sell! Product selection is arguably the most important and time-intensive part of becoming an Amazon seller. What you choose to sell is what determines how successful you will be. It’s not always a product you are particularly interested in that will make you the most money.
Jungle Scout will help you attract shoppers and make sales.
Trying to research products on your own can quickly become overwhelming and exhausting. We recommend you find a tool to help you. Jungle Scout is one such tool. In this article, we will review Jungle Scout and describe its main features so you can decide if it is the right tool to get your Amazon business off the ground.
What is Jungle Scout?
At its simplest, Jungle Scout is a tool for researching products to sell on Amazon. It helps you analyze the market to estimate sales information and decide what products will get you the most money. You can use Jungle Scout as a Chrome extension or a web app. When you have a product already in mind, looking it up on Jungle Scout can help you find the following information:
- Monthly sales
- Competition success
- Sales demographics
- Customer Reviews
- Customer Ratings
- Keyword Terms
- Niche Ideas
- Sales History
- And Much More
There’s much more that you can do with Jungle Scout, but you’ll have to try it out to exhaustively understand how it all works.
The best way to begin is to narrow down your product ideas in your own mind. You can do this by figuring out what you have access to and how much you want to be selling at a time. Do you want to sell a few unique items (like furniture) or do you want to move huge volumes of lower-cost items (like toiletries)?
Jungle Scout does most of the hard work for you, making selling on Amazon fun and easy.
You can also try to find products that you are interested in or have a particular affinity for. But don’t limit yourself to attractive-sounding items. They may not be the smartest way to make a profit.
Once you have a good idea, you can use Jungle Scout to investigate it further. Jungle Scout can help you see how much you might be able to make from that product and how well your competitors are doing. From there you can decide whether or not to move forward with it.
Pricing for Jungle Scout can be pretty hard to understand. First, they offer the web software and the Chrome extension separately or as a package. You will pay monthly, or annually at a reduce-rate. The base rates for each are $49 per month for the web software and $39 per month for the Chrome extension. As a package, you pay $69 per month for both.
But here is where it gets trickier. As you start selling, the cost increases. With the package, after 500 sales per month, you pay $89 instead of $69. It goes up further when you hit 2,000 sales, then 5,000 sales, then 10,000 sales. You could end up paying $419 per month for the package.
So now you are definitely wondering if it’s worth all that money. In our opinion, it usually is worth it. If you are serious about selling on Amazon and are willing to put in the time required to run a successful business, then Jungle Scout is worth every penny. It will save you countless hours of research and give you more accurate information than you are likely to find on your own.
You want to make sure you are choosing a good product that will cover the cost of the monthly fees though. A low or risky profit-margin means you could end up selling just enough to cover expenses, and that’s hardly worth it.
You can always begin a subscription and see if you like it because you can cancel without fee within 14 days of purchase. There is no free trial, but 2 weeks should be long enough to know if Jungle Scout is right for you.
Jungle Scout Web App Features
As we mentioned earlier, Jungle Scout can be used as a web-based software program or through a Chrome extension. You can also use them together for a more robust approach to product research. The Web App offers a lot more than the Chrome extension. But the Web App is also more expensive to subscribe to and takes a little more effort to fully use. Read on for an overview of the features of the Jungle Scout Web App.
- Opportunity Finder
This is one of the coolest parts of the Jungle Scout program. Opportunity Finder can help you find unique or undiscovered products within a certain category or listing price. You can set a bunch of different filters and Opportunity Finder will give you ideas for “niches” to explore further.
This is a great way to easily find items to sell that aren’t already part of a crowded market or too hard to sell. It’s an incredible tool that will save you hours and hours of digging through product-trash.
- Product Tracker
Jungle Scout’s Product Tracker feature can show you everything you want to know about the sales history of a particular product. You’ll be able to see the sales trends, average sale price, customer ratings and more. This is a great way to know if sales are declining for the product, indicating that you better not jump in.
Or it might tell you that sales are increasing, indicating that it might be the next hot thing. Using this combined with your intuitive understanding of what is popular right now will be a great way to make a data-driven decision about your business.
- Product Database
Jungle Scout also includes a Product Database of over 70 million products for sale on Amazon. What’s useful about this is that Jungle Scout built in a lot of informative features and tools that can be used with these Database products.
For example, you can search the entire database to find products that meet your specific criteria. You can also calculate your estimated profit from that product. While we do recommend having an idea of what you want to sell before using Jungle Scout, the Product Database is a great source of inspiration and ideas for products if you need some help.
- Keyword Scout
This tool is how you gain a competitive advantage in the market. This feature teaches you everything you need to know about optimizing your keywords to make sure people find your products and make a purchase. It will show you demand for certain keywords, ease of keyword rankings, and keywords real customers and searching for.
You won’t have to guess while doing your product listing; you’ll have data to guide your writing. Without this, you would likely end up paying more for advertising and sponsorships as a way to direct shoppers to your product. Because no matter how good your product is, if the shoppers never get to it, they won’t end up buying it.
- Supplier Database
The Supplier Database helps you move from the product research stage into the product purchase stage. One of the biggest obstacles to selling is obtaining the product to begin with. With the Supplier Database, Jungle Scout has compiled a list of suppliers that are verified, legitimate, and known to Jungle Source.
You can use the Web App to search the database by product type, brand, company, name, etc. You will be able to see their shipment history and customer volume as well.
You can even search the ASIN specifically to find a supplier for a particular Amazon product. You can save lists, compare different quotes, and even manage your orders. So much of the process can be taken care of right in this program, which is an incredible feature that shouldn’t be overlooked.
The Jungle Scout Academy is a great resource hub for sellers and prospective sellers to learn everything they want to know about selling through Amazon. You can read articles and watch videos designed by the founder of Jungle Scout- Greg Mercer.
You can ask questions, join weekly Q&As, and even watch live trainings every month. You’ll be able to start your business and get through your first sale with ease thanks to these tutorials and guides. And once you’re an experienced seller, you’ll still find more to learn from the others in the community.
- Sales Analytics
This is a tool that helps you analyze your own sales data once you get started. It keeps track of your sales so you can see your profit margin, fees you paid, operating expenses, and so on. With this information in-hand (and accurately computed!), you can find ways to improve your strategy and improve your overall performance.
The analysis will show you information from daily sales and past sales so you can see how your product is performing over time. You can compare this to trends for your competitors and see if the product is becoming less in-demand or if you must improve your listings.
You can create reports for your incomes and expenses, categorized by fees, overhead, product costs, etc. And you can track your sales and shipments even further to know where specific products are at any given time.
- Inventory Manager
Inventory Manager does exactly what it says it does- manages your inventory. This tool knows how much inventory is in your FBA collection and keeps track of inventory through sales. After a time, it is able to estimate when you need to resupply to avoid long-term storage fees from Amazon and make sure you always have the product in stock.
It will tell you the exact date you should put in a new order, the amount you should order, how much it will cost, and how much it estimates you will profit. It will work to predict future demand for your product as well, so you can estimate future earnings and plan accordingly.
Jungle Scout’s Inventory Manager will make sure you never run out of stock. ( Source )
- Opportunity Score
The Opportunity Score is the best way to decide at-a-glance if a product might be worth pursuing. Jungle Scout will calculate several different data sources to provide a single score indicating how profitable a product might be for you.
You can quickly scan through multiple products to see which one scores the best and might be the most worthy of your time and investment. Of course, we recommend doing a deeper dig before committing to any product, but this is a great way to weed some out at the start.
It can also be a fun way to kill some time while browsing the web. What’s the best Opportunity Score you can find?
Jungle Scout Chrome Extension Features
The Jungle Scout Chrome extension integrates directly into your browser to give you one-click access to product information as you search. When you identify a product and open its page, you can use the Chrome extension to bring up sales data immediately. This can be a great way to get started with selling on Amazon.
It’s also a great way to quickly narrow down a few different products you’re considering, or to take a peek at the performance of different products you’ve been keeping track of. Most people recommend using both the extension and the full Web App, as they are useful in different ways at different times.
Review of Chrome Extension Features
The Chrome extension includes most of the same features , but with reduced capability. For example, it includes the Product Database but limits you to 10 searches. It also offers the Product Tracker, Supplier Database, and Keyword Scout in limited form.
The extension offers full support of AccuSales Estimates, Academy resources, Opportunity Score, and Customer Support. And most of these are available with the click of a button through the integrated browser extension. So when you are doing some online shopping and wondering if the product you’re looking at would be a good product to sell, you can take a quick look with the Chrome extension and know whether or not it’s worth additional research.
The primary feature of the Chrome extension is its lower cost. If you aren’t ready to dive headfirst into Amazon sales, you can start smaller with the extension. For a casual seller, it should have everything you need. But it is still recommended to utilize the full package for your business if you are able.
Chrome Extension Lite
Historically, the Chrome extension was available in Pro or Lite formats. As you can likely deduce, the Pro version included more features and tools than the Lite version and came at a higher cost. Some of the features that were available in Pro but not Lite include advanced integration with the Web App software, weight information, FBA estimates, Opportunity Score, and Profit Calculator.
At the time of this writing, Jungle Scout had archived the Lite version of the extension and was only offering the Pro version (although without naming it Pro). They must have realized that the features in Pro were pretty important and should just be automatically included. If Jungle Scout resumes offering the Chrome Extension Lite, we will still recommend you use the Pro version in order to get the most out of your experience.
Jungle Scout Web App Vs Chrome Extension
So now you are wondering which one is right for you? There are upsides to each one, and it ultimately depends on what you see yourself using Jungle Scout for the most. The cost will, of course, be a factor as well. If you can’t afford the cost of the Web App, that’s all there is to it!
If you just use the Web App, you have access to all of the Jungle Scout features. You will be able to do very detailed, in-depth research about products and make the most informed decisions. What you will lack is the speed and efficiency of the extension. But if this is a serious business venture of yours, you should get the full version.
The extension does not have all the features of the Web App. It has reduced metrics and limited access to some of the most helpful tools of the Web App. However, it costs less and allows you to eyeball many products in a short period of time without conducting a time-consuming analysis. If you want this to be more of a hobby than a business, you can get by with the extension alone.
The extension allows you to get quick and easy product information while you are flipping through product pages or doing something completely unrelated. It is like a snapshot compared to the magnifying glass of the Web App. To get the most out of Jungle Scout you should use both: Narrow down your products with the extension and then dig deep with the Web-App.
No need for complicated record-keeping when you use Jungle Scout.
- Is Jungle Scout free?
No, it is not free. Jungle Scout will cost you either by the month or by the year. It is approximately 50% cheaper to subscribe by the year. It may seem like a lot of money, but if you actually make use of it, it will pay for itself.
- Does Jungle Scout have an app?
At this time there is no mobile app for Jungle Scout.
- Can I use Jungle Scout on my phone?
You can use the Web App version of Jungle Scout on your phone or other mobile devices. Unfortunately, you will not likely be able to use the extension on your phone, as Chrome extensions are not currently supported for mobile devices.
- What is Jungle Scout used for?
Jungle Scout is used to help Amazon sellers research and monitor products. It helps sellers make the best, more informed decisions and achieve maximum profitability.
- Can I cancel Jungle Scout?
Yes, you can cancel Jungle Scout. If you have a monthly membership, you can cancel directly in your Jungle Scout account. If you have an annual membership though, you will need to contact their customer service team.
- How can I contact support?
You can chat directly with a support member on their website through their integrated chat client. Or you can email them at firstname.lastname@example.org .
- Does Jungle Scout have a free trial?
Jungle Scout does not technically offer a free trial, but they have a 14-day refund period if you are unsatisfied with the product.
When you sign up for Amazon FBA, you cut out almost all of the work involved in selling with Amazon. With FBA, all the seller has to do is choose products, organize supply, and create the product listings. But using Jungle Scout cuts out most of that work as well! Jungle Scout makes it easy to choose your products (and to choose them well), keep track of sales and inventory, and predict how your product will do in the future.
If you are already an Amazon seller or thinking of getting into the market, you should strongly consider Jungle Scout. Based on our review, it is an incredibly useful tool that can make the selling process a breeze for new users. A tool like this is the best way to get an advantage among other sellers and optimize your business for maximum profit.
